2018 March 29th, Taishan, Shandong. The new Emgrand EV450 was launched onto the market at a ceremony in the city of Taishan, Shandong on March 29 after completing 418km journey on a single charge from Beijing. With media in tow, five Emgrand EV450 took the challenge to make the over 400km journey on a single charge from Beijing to Mount Tai, one of China’s Five Great Mountains. Even after travelling 418km the new battery electric models still had more than 60km worth of power left, far exceeding the model’s NEDC rated range of 400km and setting a new benchmark in the segment.

In the domestic EV market, few brands dare to openly take on the challenge of a long-distance drive because the factors affecting the range of an electric vehicle is very complex including weather, wind-resistance, driving skill, etc. However with great confidence in the performance of its products, Geely dared to take on this challenge with the Emgrand EV450, showing consumers the strength of its premium pure electric mid-sized sedan.

The daring 418km challenge started in Beijing going to Luzhou, Dezhou, and Jinan before reaching one of China’s Five Great Mountains, Mount Tai. At the end, the Emgrand EV450 passed the rigorous test of its power performance, endurance, driving comfort, and safety with flying colors and proved the model’s outstanding quality and performance. The vehicle’s exceptional performance is a result of the “golden trinity” of its lightweight construction, low-drag design, and efficient energy recovery system.

Besides the “Golden Trinity,” other factors in the Emgrand EV450 successful completion of the challenge was its excellent powertrain and optimized chassis. The vehicle is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor which smoothly puts out a maximum power of 120kW and torque of 250N.M. The chassis was optimized for NVH providing occupants with the highest level of comfort for drives of any distance.

The Emgrand EV450 is based on Geely’s best-selling New Emgrand platform, which has already sold over 1.5 million units. It comes with the most advanced EV technologies such as a 52 kWh lithium battery pack from CATL, 30 minute extremely high-speed charging, and Geely’s own ITCS 2.0 (Intelligent  Temperature Control System). The battery from CATL comes with 142.07Wh/kg, the highest in the segment. New high-speed charging technology allows the EV450 to fully charge in 50 minutes or from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes. Geely’s self-developed ITCS 2.0 manages the temperature of the battery which improves charging efficiency, extends battery life, and maintains stable battery temperature preventing battery decay in the winter and heat damage in the summer.

In 2018, Geely Auto will transform from a traditional car company to one focused on connectivity and new energy. In addition to the new Emgrand EV450, Geely will release three new energy products this year such as the Emgrand GSe, New Emgrand PHEV, and other high-end products.
